Biography

Matteo Scarpettini was born on April 17, 1981 in Livorno, Italy.
As a child Matteo showed a strong interest in all forms of art - particularly in music. His lifelong passion for art and music continues to inspire him daily and remains at the heart of his professional life.

In 1997 Matteo began formal study of orchestral percussion at the conservatory in Livorno. He also continued to immerse himself in an intense study of world/ethnic percussion. These diverse influences helped shape Matteo's unique personal playing style.

Matteo's performances as a sideman have been broadcast both in Italy and internationally by well-known TV and radio organisations such as Rai, Mediaset and the BBC.

He has collaborated and performed with artists of national and international renown including: Antonello Salis, Mauro Grossi, Tilak, Ney Rosauro, Tom Freund, Frank London, Sandro Satta, Roberto Bellatalla, Elio, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi & Sinfonico Honolulu, Riccardo Tesi & Banditaliana, Niccolò Fabi, Raiz, Teresa de Sio, Luca Barbarossa, Gianmaria Testa, Paola Turci, Giovanni Gulino, Orchestra Regionale Della Toscana (ORT) and many others.

He has been involved as a co-leader (and sideman) in over 20 recording projects.

Since 2013 he has been performing (and developing) his own live repertoire across Europe and North America.

In 2011 he was awarded Best Creative Italian Percussionist at the International Naco Memorial PercFest at Laigueglia.
